Delta 10 Vs. Delta 8: What’s the Difference?

By Fresh Bros Hemp Company / March 22, 2022 March 4, 2023

Delta 10 Vs. Delta 8: What’s the Difference?

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the main psychoactive compound and one of the hundreds of cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. Although the chemical formula for THC describes multiple isomers (compounds that contain exactly the same number of atoms), the term THC itself is used to refer to the Delta 9 isomer.

Delta 8, an isomer of Delta 9 THC has been taking the hemp industry by storm these days due to its milder, euphoric high. Another newer isomer of Delta 9 is Delta 10 THC, which is also getting into the limelight these days. If you’re curious about Delta 8 or Delta 10 products and want to learn more about them, you’re in the right place. In this article, we will discuss the differences between Delta 10 and Delta 8 and the effects they can possibly provide.

What is Delta 8 THC?

Delta 8 THC is a naturally-occurring cannabinoid, found in trace amounts in hemp and cannabis plants. It has been causing cannabis connoisseurs into a frenzy lately and due to good reasons. The chemical structure of Delta 8 is similar to its brother, Delta 9 THC and both produce a euphoric, fuzzy feeling, but Delta-8 causes a milder high.

There are other names of Delta 8 THC such as “marijuana-lite” or “diet weed.”

What is Delta 10 THC?

Delta 10 is a cannabinoid discovered by accident by Fusion Farms in California while extracting THC distillate from a batch of cannabis that was contaminated with a fire retardant. It formed these mysterious crystals that were originally misidentified as the cannabinoids CBC and CBL, and then properly identified as Delta 10 after months of research.

These days, delta 10 is made using a conversion process similar to the one used for producing delta 8 concentrates. This is also the reason behind its clear appearance. Delta 10 THC is also psychoactive, but far less potent than delta 9 and even milder than delta 8.

How do Delta-8 and Delta-10 work?

Just like any cannabinoid, both Delta 8 and Delta 10 interact through the body’s endocannabinoid system but in different ways. As a review, cannabinoid (CB) receptors are found all over the body, and there are two kinds of them: CB1 and CB2.

CB1 receptors are present in very high levels in several brain regions and in lower amounts in a more widespread fashion. These receptors mediate many of the psychoactive effects of cannabinoids. CB2 receptors have a more restricted distribution, being found in a number of immune cells and in a few neurons.

Delta-8 THC is a tryptamine and it activates the CB1 receptors in the brain to produce an effect. Delta 10 THC doesn’t activate CB1 receptors as Delta 8 THC does, but it still provides a small psychoactive effect that may include mood changes.

How are Delta-8 and Delta-10 THC made?

Delta-8 and Delta-10 THC can be made using a few ways. Delta 8 is manufactured to have high CBN content, while Delta 10 THC has been found to include more of the cannabinoids CBG, CBC, and delta 9 THC. Both CBG and CBC provide a longer onset time for Delta 10 THC, which is another reason why Delta 10 THC is less potent than Delta 8 THC.

Some makers of cannabis oil have been known to use hexane when they’re manufacturing their products. However, hexane isn’t listed on the label that most dispensaries put on their products because it isn’t included in the final product.

Delta 8 THC is made by adding hexane during the process of producing Delta-9 THC. The hexane solution is used to help produce Delta 8 THC when it’s added to Delta 9 THC.

Where Can You Get Delta-8 And Delta-10?

Both Delta 8 and Delta 10 THC can be found all throughout the US, depending on the state you’re currently residing in. States where medical marijuana is legal, are more likely to have dispensaries that sell Delta 8 or Delta 10 THC for certain uses.

However, if you don’t live in a state where medical marijuana is legal, FreshBros got you covered! We ship everywhere in the country.

What Is The Difference Between Delta 10 And Delta 8 THC?

Although Delta 8 and Delta 10 THC have similar molecular structures, there are a lot of differences to take note of.

Delta 8 vs. Delta 10 THC: Effects

Both Delta 8 THC and Delta 10 THC have been known to provide a slight high with calming effects that may not be as intense as the psychoactive effects of other cannabinoids. People use both Delta 8 THC and Delta 10 THC as medication or recreationally depending on the state they live in.

Delta 10 THC has been found to be less potent than the Delta 8 THC while still providing you with that psychoactive component you’re used to with THC. Many people find that Delta 10 THC is preferred because it doesn’t lead to anxiety and paranoia like other cannabinoids might.

D8 vs. Delta 10: Which One is More Expensive?

Delta 10 THC is more expensive than Delta 8. We can say D8 is more affordable and has a larger market when compared to Delta 10.

This is where the Law of Supply and Demand enters. As of this writing, Delta 8 THC is more popular, and manufacturers can comfortably mass-produce it. Delta 10 THC has a small following at this time. Fewer customers also mean fewer manufacturers, which means less competition and naturally higher prices.

It can be inferred that the pricing of these two cannabinoids will likely equal out once both have established a similar user base and delta 10 can be mass-produced.

Delta-8 vs Delta-10: Are They Both Legal?

Delta-8 and delta-10’s legality in the US is complicated. Legislation is conflicting, vague, and open to interpretation. Delta-8 and delta-10 are federally legal under the Agriculture Improvement Act (2018 Farm Bill), provided they’re naturally sourced from hemp plants carrying no more than 0.3% THC.

However, since chemical-based structural isomerization of CBD to delta-8 and delta-10 takes place, they might be viewed as synthetic. Synthetically derived cannabinoids are considered controlled substances and are illegal to use, possess, distribute, and produce under the Federal Analog Act.

Currently, the government and the DEA are attempting to verify delta-8 and delta-10’s legality. In 2020, the DEA issued an Interim Final Rule stating all “synthetically-derived” substances remain Schedule I substances, delta-8 and delta-10 included. The DEA’s rule has been met with legal action from hemp stakeholder groups.

Will delta-8 get you higher than delta-10?

Both can make you high, but Delta 8 can cause a stronger, more noticeable euphoric high than delta-10. However, take note that neither is as potent as delta-9 THC, which makes them great if you’re a beginner wanting to experience a milder high.

Anecdotal reports say that delta-8 high boosts your concentration, focus, and mood, while still making you feel calm and relaxed almost like a Sativa cannabis strain.

Delta-10, on the other hand, gives you more of a stimulating “head buzz” similar to drinking a few beers in the evening. You’re also less likely to experience a full-body high.

Delta 8 THC vs Delta 10 THC: Which is Better?

The difference between Delta 8 THC and Delta 10 THC is dependent on your needs. Delta 10 THC has a relaxing effect that can make you feel calmer. This may be a better option if you want to relax after work or spend time with your family.

Delta 8 THC is better for pain and inflammation, which is why doctors frequently recommend it. People who are suffering from chronic pain have turned to Delta 8 THC for relief.

Delta 8 THC is also known for its effects on your brain’s CB1 and CB2 receptors. Delta 8 THC has been shown to reduce inflammation in the brain, which can be beneficial if you are ill.

Delta 8 THC may be a better choice if you’re looking for a product with a more potent effect. Delta 10 THC is great for relieving stress and relaxing, but Delta 8 THC is a better choice if you’re experiencing pain or inflammation.
